I’ve always wanted to publish a book.
Lots of books, actually, but I suppose I have to start with just the one.
And to publish a book, I need to, you know, write a book. Which I’m doing; if you follow me on Twitter at all, you’ve probably noticed that all I’ve been doing (when not shouting into the void via cathartic political retweets) is posting my daily word count update. As of this post, I just crested the halfway mark of my goal of 80k, though it feels like it may end up being slightly longer than that once all is said and done.
So that’s step one: write a gattdamned book.
My timeline looks like this:
- Finish the 80k-ish rough draft by the end of NaNoWrimo (November 30th)
- Revise into a workshoppable first draft by the end of December
- Workshop the draft in January with beta readers (which, if you’re interested in being a beta reader for me, let me know!)
- Query agents in February
And…yeah. That’s it, really, because everything after that (actually getting an agent, which leads to getting an editor and/or a publisher) is kind of out of my control, since I’m determined to go the traditional route over self-publishing.
It feels good to write it down and get it outside of my head.
Now to do the thing.
